Teach Portuguese to adults in Brazil

Brazil is the largest catholic country in the world and it plays a big role helping the disenfranchised. One of my cousins volunteers in one of the convents in Fortaleza. Among many of their charity work, they run a halfway house for drub addict adults and many of them are illiterate. Through Paulo Freire's adult education method, I taught 8 men how to read. It was an amazing experience to see them feel so empowered. I have also done similar work in one of the slums in Fortaleza. I remember one day that one of my students who worked selling coffee and snacks on construction sites said: " Teacher Virginia, now my customers cannot cheat on me anymore; I know exactly how much they pay and how much I give as change."
